[MUSIC] Hi everyone, this is Mike Stinson at TypeEd and welcome to Type 1 today. This is our first in the series of three courses, called The Basics where we start with characters and words. And today we are going to be talking about a few items on our agenda mainly starting from the beginning, how we got to this system of Roman type from history, where type came from and language of type. Some of the key terms that we use with typography. I'm also going to talk to you about classifications and the importance of classifications in the beginning of type and understanding just like music genres, how they save you time in choosing typefaces. I'm also going to try to explain or attempt to explain the feeling of setting type, and using typography in analogy with music. Also want to talk to you about measurements. Measurements are a key component in learning typography especially now that we are on two different mediums of digital surfaces and then print surfaces. And then to wrap up at the end we are going to have a little talk about software, maybe what software is best to use for more type and then a few type crimes at the end, okay?.
